Kano Intensifies Drug War as Task Force Unveils Nine Committees

The Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Trafficking (MATFDAT) in Kano State has stepped up its campaign against drug abuse and trafficking with the inauguration of nine specialised committees.
The task force Chairman, Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, inaugurated the committees on Friday, August 21, 2026, and charged members to deliver results in their respective areas.
Rimin Gado said the growing challenge of drug abuse requires stronger coordination among government agencies, traditional institutions and other stakeholders.
He urged the committee members to treat their appointments as a responsibility to the people and not simply as positions.
According to him, the success of the task force will depend on the commitment, discipline and cooperation of its members.
The nine committees will handle areas including finance, media and publicity, advocacy and sensitisation, licences, inventory and verification, compliance, inspection and electronic tracking.
Others are monitoring and implementation, intelligence, reformative and traditional council, and anti-drug coordination.
Rimin Gado called on the committees to work collectively and ensure that their activities lead to practical results in preventing drug abuse and disrupting trafficking networks.
He also stressed the need for sustained public awareness and effective monitoring as part of efforts to address drug-related challenges in Kano State.
The inauguration marks a new phase in the task force’s efforts to coordinate the state’s response to drug abuse and trafficking through specialised committees and stronger collaboration among relevant stakeholders.
