Flooding; Nasarawa Govt to relocate residents from flood-prone areas

Following recent prediction by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (Nimet) that 31 states including Nasarawa State would experience flooding in 2024, the State Government is set to relocate residents from flood prone areas.
Permanent Secretary (PS) of the ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Ahj. Garba Mohammed, made the disclosure to newsmen in Lafia after the May sanitation exercise on Saturday.
According to him, the government has set up a taskforce that is responsible for sensitising the people in the affected areas to know that the decision is in their best interest.
He equally indicated that the government has since commenced evacuation of drains in Lafia, the state capital to ensure free flow of water.
He said they were working with the Chairman of Local Government Areas to replicate similar exercise at the local government levels.
On the level of compliance with the sanitation exercise, the permanent secretary expressed satisfaction with the residents for cleaning their houses, shops as well as their environments during the period of the exercise.
He added that shops and business environments were temporary closed during the exercise, but explained that only those on essential services were allowed to move around.
He therefore called on members of the public to always keep their environments clean to guard against the outbreaks of diseases.
Meanwhile, 122 persons were apprehended in the state for alleged violations of environmental sanitation laws, Dr Abubakar Mohammed, Chief Prosecuting Officer of sanitation Court had said.
Mohammed who is also the Director, Enforcement and Compliance, Waste Management and Sanitation Authority, said the defaulters were caught transacting thier businesses and driving around during the sanitation hours

Hardship: Sule’s aide distributes palliative to 200 vulnerables in Nasarawa

The Special Assistant to governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasaraw State on Media, Hon. Laminu Ishaq has distributed N5000 each to over 200 less privileged women, Persons With Disabilities(PWD) and youths in his constituency
Ishaq appealed to other appointees to also to alsp extend their hands of fellowships to the less privileged to alleviate the current hardship no matter how little.
Hon. Laminu indicated that he was moved with compassion for his people because of the intense hardship associated with the removal of the fuel subsidy.
“I feel I should take out of my little earning and give to the poor especially now that hunger is biting harder in many homes in the country. I am happy doing this and will do more by God’s mercy.
“More so, I made a promise to our supporters in Lafia central ward that should Sule be returned for second term I will come back and thank them. Today I am fulfilling that promise.
“I appeal to all my colleagues and those with the whewithal, to please share your resources with these poor ones so that they can feel your impact.
He appealed to Nigerians to remained steadfast as no hard times last for ever adding that they continue to pray with hope that things will change for the best in the country.

Gov Sule seeks collaboration with media practitioners in Nasarawa

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has appealed to media practitioners in the state to double their effort in the reportage of the numerous achievements of his administration.
The Senior Special Adviser to the governor on Public Affairs, Mr. Peter Ahemba gave the indication during a media visit to the Nasarawa state chapter of the correspondent’s chapel.
Ahemba who commended the chapel members for the vibrant discharge of their editorial responsibilities across the state, appealed for a closer collaboration and professionalism in their reportage.
“We thought it wise to embark on a media visit to identify and commend you for the great work you are doing in the state.
“We also appeal to you to redouble your efforts considering the huge accomplishments of Governor Abdullahi Sule in areas of industrialisation and other infrastructural development” Ahemba said.
Responding, the chairman of the state correspondent’s chapel, Mr. Isaac Ukpoju applauded Mr. Ahemba for his visit to identify with the chapel.
Ukpoju appealed to the governor to carry the chapel along for proper coverage of events in the state.
He appealed to the governor not to allow any misgivings that could hamper the good relationship already existing between the chapel and the government.
He noted that the chapel under his leadership has remained united and vibrant in their daily reportage.
He called on the governor to take advantage of the media space the chapel has provided to advance the image of the state and his accomplishments through regular engagement of the chapel in government’s events and programmes.
“We can only report accurately when the government invite and engages the media. But when we are made to take our report from social media and other sources because the government does not engage us as a chapel, what you get may not be the exact report”, Ukpoju noted.
While assuring the governor of the chapel’s readiness to uphold professionalism, hard work in their reportage, Ukpoju appealed for an improved welfare and protection of the chapel members given the present insecurity, economic hardship the country is going through.
